How does NDIS Work?

NDIS funding works by providing individuals with the necessary funding to access approved disability Support services which have been identified as essential within their NDIS plan. Categories of funding participants can receive money for include:

Core supports budget: Includes consumables or everyday items (such as continence aids), low-cost equipment to aid mobility, assist in daily activities for household cleaning and maintenance, social participation (e.g., hearing aids), and transport.

Capacity building budget: This budget is designed to help participants achieve their goals in areas of employment (finding and keeping a job), improve their health (exercise and diet advice), education (help them further their schooling), relationships (advice to develop positive interactions with others), and living arrangements.

Capital support budget: Use to help fund assistive technologies including vehicle modifications, wheelchairs and modifications to the home. This includes the installation of a handrail in your bathroom or a ramp into the home.
Depending on how you manage your funding, accessing the money to pay NDIS providers can vary. If you choose to self-manage your funds, you have two funding options to pay for your supports:

Make a payment request and then pay your provider.

Pay your provider and then make a payment request.
Your choice of support can be purchased from any registered provider as long as the services are in line with your goals. A formal review meeting occurs after 12 months to assess whether you are happy with the support within your plan, or if changes need to be made.

They will connect you with an NDIS partner who can assist you with the application process. The NDIS will assess your application and let you know if you’ve been approved as a participant. Create your plan. Meet with an NDIS Planner to discuss your goals, supports, and what you need.
This is when you need to ask for plan management. Receive your plan by mail or via the NDIS myplace portal. Implement your plan by engaging providers who can deliver the necessary supports and services. Review your plan. Do you need assistance with applying for funding through the NDIS?

What Does NDIS Cover?
NDIS funding will cover the following:

Help people with personal care needs such as general hygiene, getting in and out of bed, managing finances, house cleaning and other domestic activities.

Payment for aids and equipment such as wheelchairs and hearing aids.
